Periani Khikhvi Qvevri

Periani Khikhvi Qvevri is a dry amber (orange) wine made from 100% Khikhvi, a rare white grape native to Kakheti, using the traditional Kakhetian qvevri method. It comes from Periani, a family winery founded in 2003 in the village of Vejini, in the Alazani Valley of eastern Georgia.

Khikhvi is one of Georgia’s lesser-known endemic varieties, prized for aromatic, high-quality white wines. Periani’s Khikhvi vines were planted in 2003 on the north-eastern slope of the Tsiv-Gombori ridge and are farmed with organic methods. The hand-harvested grapes are fermented in qvevri together with their skins and stems, then sealed in the qvevri for six to seven months – the ancient Georgian technique that gives amber wine its colour, texture and notes of ripe and dried fruit. It is bottled in French glass under Portuguese cork and sealed with wax.

Tasting notes

Deep straw to amber in colour, with a pronounced varietal aroma of ripe and dried fruit. The palate is full-bodied, soft and harmonious, with the gentle grip of skin contact and a fresh, mineral finish.

Food pairing and serving

Serve lightly chilled at 12–14°C. Pairs beautifully with poultry, fish, light cheeses and salads, as well as Georgian dishes such as chicken in walnut sauce (satsivi) and pkhali.
